FAQ

What is birth photography?

Simply put, birth photography is the documentation of the labor, birth and initial postpartum period. But birth photography is so much more. Birth photography is about capturing a powerful love story and all the special moments that take place during one of the greatest days of your life.

Why hire a birth photographer?

The birth of your child will be one of the best days of your life. It will be full of beautiful moments and every emotion imaginable. The day often flies by and all you’re left with is hazy memories. Hiring a professional ensures that all the details, big and small, will be preserved forever.

What types of births do you attend?

I believe all births are beautiful and serve families throughout the Dallas Forth Worth area, no matter their birth preferences.  Home, birth center, hospital, c section, regardless of the location or birth plan I would be honored to tell your birth story.

When do you arrive?

I stay in communication with you and your labor support team to help determine the best time for me to arrive. My goal is to join you during active labor, ideally when you are approximately 6-7 centimeters dilated. If you are not being checked we can use the intensity and pattern of your contractions to help gauge the right time for me to come.

How long do you stay after the birth?

Approximately 1-3 hours. My goal is to capture those precious first moments which often include the newborn exam, breastfeeding, and lots of cuddles with mom and dad.

What if you miss the birth?

In the event of a super fast labor and birth I will still come to your birth location and capture your story. Depending on the circumstances a Fresh48 or lifestyle newborn session may be offered.

In the event I am unable to attend your birth due to sickness or another emergency a professional back up birth photographer will be sent.

Do you use flash?

I utilize whatever light sources are needed to obtain quality images. Natural and available light will always be my first choice. With your permission I may open curtains or adjust available lights. In the event the room is too dark I will discretely utilize flash.

I really do/do not want graphic images. Is that okay?

This is YOUR birth story. The type of images you do and do not want captured is something we will discuss prior to your birth. If you want crowning shots, great, the woman’s body is incredible!! If you’d prefer to keep things more discreet that is awesome too.

Do you share on social media?

I love sharing birth stories, but I happily honor requests for privacy as well.
